This five day training is jointly organized by SERVIR Hindu Kush Himalaya of ICIMOD in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Water, Afghanistan. The training is intended to build capacity of ICIMOD’s national partners in the region to map and monitor glaciers and glacial lakes using remote sensing (RS) and geographical information systems (GIS). The training will also increase awareness on the present status of glaciers, glacial lakes, and GLOF activities in HKH region. The first three days will focus on the basics of RS and GIS, followed by two days of tool application in simulation. Expected Outcomes Participants are expected to complete the training with knowledge of the basics of RS and GIS, and how to use these tools for mapping and monitoring glaciers and glacial lakes. Expected Participants This training is targeted at mid-level professionals from agencies and organizations engaged in glacier, glacial lakes, and water resource management. Water resource engineers, academics, and those with an interest in RS and GIS should consider attending. Some basic knowledge of RS and GIS is desirable, but not required.
