10 Apr 2014 A week-long workshop was conducted by the DAI based Demand team for SERVIR in Bethesda, Maryland, from 24–28 March 2014. The workshop, which was held in Washington, DC, was attended by SERVIR-Himalaya team members from ICIMOD, Nepal; SERVIR-Africa team members from the Regional Center for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) in Nairobi, Kenya; and a member of the SERVIR Coordination Office team in Huntsville, Alabama, USA. The workshop sought to facilitate clear understanding and planning among members of the different SERVIR hubs in Asia and Africa to ensure implementation, task integration, and results related to SERVIR user engagement, communications, monitoring and evaluation, and grants programmes. Other objectives of the workshop included reaching a mutual understanding about SERVIR’s Demand team and how it links to the ‘supply side’ of SERVIR, as well as to the host institution’s broader programming, and reaching a consensus about the roles and responsibilities of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), NASA, the SERVIR Demand team in Washington, DC, and the SERVIR hubs. Discussions also sought to identify key areas of synergy and collaboration among the hubs, the Demand team, and the SERVIR Coordination Office. A question and answer session saw Nancy Searby, Capacity Building Program Manager from NASA headquarters in Washington, and Albert Anoubon-Momo, USAID’s SERVIR Climate Change Specialist, answering queries from participants about the future of SERVIR and its role within USAID and NASA. At the end of the workshop participants presented a clear, integrated communication and evaluation plan for the respective hubs and identified focal persons for peer support and prospective areas for collaboration.
