The SERVIR-Himalaya programme works in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region to build capacity of regional institutions including governments, non-government, universities and other key stakeholders to integrate earth observation information and geospatial technologies into development decision-making for sustainable mountain development with special focus on climate adaptation, vulnerability, or mitigation.

Under SERVIR-Himalaya, ICIMOD has initiated 14 research grants engaging with regional partner organizations in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan. Among the 14 projects, 8 were funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under small grants programme and 6 were funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) under small scale application programme. The overall objective of both the SERVIR-Himalaya Small Grant Programme and Small Scale Applications programme is to help grow the network of organizations, universities, and institutions in the HKH region to improve capacity in evidence based decision making and to generate innovative ideas for applying earth observation data and geospatial method/tool for decision making in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan (HKH) region.

All of the projects are planned to be finished by end of July 2015. In this context, SERVIR-Himalaya would like to organize a final workshop from July 1-2, 2015 at ICIMOD, Kathmandu, Nepal to provide opportunity to all the grantees to present the outcome of their research and implementation.

  • To present the outputs and outcomes of the projects as outlined in the proposal;
  • To exchange knowledge gained by the implementing partners including positive experiences, lesson learned, key challenges, steps to overcome the challenges and level of responses from the end users or stakeholder organizations;
  • To discuss both immediate (such as handing over the data, report etc. project documents) and potential future way forward for each of the projects;
  • To continue strengthening the networking forum of SERVIR-Himalaya grantees and product users for knowledge sharing;
